Hello Stars!!!
As a personal trainer and wellness coach, I get asked a lot of questions about weight loss. I absolutely love these questions because I have experience as a weight loss counselor and I was not exactly born “skinny.” I can eat off track for 2 days and feel like I’ve gained 5 pounds.
The concept that I teach my clients is to focus on weight management or maintenance – no person is free from both. Age, lazy days and desserts can become an issue for all of us. This is why I do not push or advise programs that advertise these grandiose results in 30 days or less – they are simply selling to you.
There are only 2 main things to keep in mind when it comes to weight management, the first is to get moving and the second will be discussed in an upcoming post.
I am not urging you to sign up for the nearest gym, buy $60 athletic leggings, and workout every day until you feel comfortable with your body. What if I told you that you could lose weight by doing only one exercise that anyone can do? Well…..
Take a Walk.
Yes, take a walk. Take a few walks. Put on some comfortable shoes and walk around your block or to the bank/store. Just walk, and then walk some more (hopefully in 20 minute increments or more). Talking to a friend while walking is one of the easiest ways to walk without even realizing how far you have gone. Have a Fitbit or pedometer? Work towards those 10,000 steps.
According to Mayclinic.org, regular brisk walking can help you:
- Maintain a healthy weight
- Prevent or manage various conditions, including heart disease, high blood pressure and type 2 diabetes
- Strengthen your bones and muscles
- Improve your mood
While walking remember to practice good posture, keep your abs slightly tightened and walk rolling your foot from heel to toe. Viola!
How many steps in the right direction will you take today?

Simple, yet super effective. My bf and I like to do this on the weekends esp bc our typical weekend breakfast is like eggs & biscuits and gravy & hash browns lol

Yes, so effective! Long walks on the weekend are the best 🙂

During the work week it seems close to impossible to walk. I work overnight sitting at a desk, so during the day I’m sleep. I can be so lazy. Walking is something that I need to instill in my daily routine. Because I am missing it greatly. Great Post !!

It can be a big challenge sometimes to find a place in your schedule. The key is to put it somewhere in your schedule that it’s hard to not do it. For example, when you get to work park as far as you can safely – you have to walk to the building and back, everyday.

i believe in the power of ‘walking’…….and weight loss seems such a mystery……as for diets…..i found GM diet exceptionally effective but its not something you can do so easily…….not so easily as taking a walk.! waiting for your next post! 🙂 🙂

This is definitely a “weight loss diet.” Honestly, I would not recommend this diet to anyone but it won’t kill you. That diet involves barely eating with lots of water so you will drop weight in the 7 days BUT the issues come after the 7 days because this cannot be done long term. It would be bad on the body.

I will be posting more weight loss topics in the future 🙂 There is no way to lose fat in only one area but you can lose fat all over your body at once. You can achieve that.

Excellent post! I’m big on working out and staying in shape, but never had any formal training on it other than my military career. Good to get an expert’s opinion on this.

I’m sure the military gave you a very good background in working out lol

Since Choppy and I started walking our mile a day (200 days in a row as of this morning!), I feel much better. And Choppy looks like a different, younger dog. It’s amazing what that little change has done for us!

I know one guy from back in high school, he has been walking after work for 1,5/2 hours each day and lost like 30 kilos in mmm 10-11 months or so, and that’s only because he walked! instead of taking the train!! basically you don’t have to litteraly sport at a gym (although it’s good of course and it helps you in every way) just walk from- or to work and you’re fine, if your job is at walking distance of course. I myself am skinny from nature and I have a hard time gaining weight, my job is fairly close to home, I always cycle or walk (cycle 12 minutes, walk 45 minutes) it’s not helping me gain weight xD but I’m fine with my body and I accept it now (didn’t accept in when I was in high school) of course here in The Netherlands we ride the bicycle daily, it’s not really a sport for us it’s a way of life and our number 1 transportation. We have more bicycles than cars here 🙂 (17 million people, 8 million cars and 23 million bicycles from recent stats) even though it’s 0 degrees we still take the bike and go, if it rains we take the bike, even in -10 we take the bike xD

Wow! It’s more of a rarity for people in the USA to ride bikes everywhere, it’s like people will tHink you can’t afford a car. It’s a good that that you don’t have extra weight and being active is a part of your lifestyle. Building muscle and playing sports are good hobbies but walking and ridingredients bikes are much better for everyday health benefits. Thanks for sharing that information with me about the Netherlands, I never knew that 😃

yea in the US they even take the car for grocery shopping xD of course the roads in the US aren’t exactly made for people to walk and many times the distance to the mall is quite far compared to here 🙂 + everything is smaller here and build closer to each other

Wow, makes me want to visit there 🙂
Yes, you are correct. Most people here don’t live close to work and shopping, but I find that people will drive to the corner of their street before walking.

haha so true, at least that’s what I’ve noticed too even taking the car to your neighbour.

I think leaving fast food in the trash would also help a great amount! over here too, slowly fast food is the standard… not really good, of course it’s not bad but every day… a bit too much

You’re right, leaving fast food in the trash would be MAJOR help. We have fast food everywhere you look. Most of it is really bad.

I love the advice. I think walking is a great way to begin exercise and for enjoyment. I have a mobile health app that I am designing at the moment looking to encourage this…if you can try and have a look and see if there’s anything you would like to see 🙂
